Blank is as long as it can be and still eject once the case mouth opens on firing - length ensures positive feeding.
Special care must be used in blank fire adapting straight blowback operation pistols as they are far less forgiving in terms of damage in cases of over pressure. Due to the age and design of many of the pistols it is always recommended that blank adapting be done by a gunsmith and tune in the weapon starting with a blank adapter (BFA) size at least 1 SAE size larger than recommended then work your way down.
Rounds are charged to be quite loud with significant flash.
